Share As His Child

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.…I Peter 4:12-14

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ — if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him. 18I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.… Romans 8:16-18
Are  you his child?  Have you been sanctified and redeemed by the blood of Christ?  If you are you have certainly realized that you not only share in his glory, but also in his suffering.  Though it is a popular teaching, becoming his heir doesn’t mean a life on earth without trouble.  God does not promise health, wealth and happiness.   Quite the contrary.  God’s word tells us that we will have trouble in this life.   I’m going to step out and suggest that if you are not having trouble for Jesus’s sake that you might want to examine your life.  Are you living for yourself or are you living in service to your King?
 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33
The Christian life is not easy.  There will be heartache and separation.  Sometimes there will be separation from those we love.  Friendships will fail, family will abandon you. You may have to leave a  position at a company that you loved.  You may have to stand up against sin and say no more.  These are hard things to do.  It is difficult to walk a life in service to Jesus.
Our job is to love others as ourselves and to serve others before ourselves. But even this will often be mistaken by those that don’t understand. Oftentimes we will be ridiculed, our words will be twisted.  They will tell us what we believe (rather what they think we believe), they will falsely accuse us because they really don’t understand what they think they do.  In some parts of the world we will be imprisoned or murdered for our faith.
But we also share in his glory!  This suffering?  It’s temporary.  A lifetime of suffering here for an eternity of glory.
This is one of my favorite hymns. I often sung the chorus to my four children after a bad dream or just to relax them if they were struggling.
This is day 18 of the 31 day challenge.  Today’s word is SHARE.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Refrain

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!

Refrain

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Refrain
