Quotes To Try

My brain failed me today as I contemplated the word try.  So I hit up brainquotes.  Below are some I found to be favorites.    Some of these quotes provoke thought.  Others are just downright funny.  These quotes mean something because the people who said them got out of their comfort zone and tried.

Someone I knew many years ago faced Jesus yesterday.  She was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest lady. Always thinking of others before herself.  I was looking at her pictures on Facebook yesterday.  One picture in particular captivated my attention.  Face down, arms out wide, long curly red hair flowing as she falls.  Someone says it’s a perfect form.  I wouldn’t know.  From snorkeling to snow skiing, and even bungee jumping, she was fearless.  I would have been terrified, in fact, I would never have tried.  Heights are not my friend.  Fast drops are not my friend.    But Traci?  She tried and succeeded.  It reminded me of Tim McGraw’s song.  That’s how she lived life.  Even when we knew her way back when, all of us newlyweds, when Shane and I were still in college.  She loved deeply and was deeply loved, played hard and served Jesus with her whole self.  She blessed the lives of everyone she knew.

I wanna be like her when I grow up.

As it was I ended up writing on try afterall didn’t I?  I still want to share some of the quotes I found.  They’re below.

His Grace is sufficient,

Linking up with the gang at Five Minute Friday today.  The one word prompt is TRY.

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.

Johnny Cash

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Thomas A. Edison

The Bible tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Surely part of loving in this way is trying to understand what another person wants us to understand. I may not understand perfectly and I may not agree, but if I love you I should try to know what it is you wish I could know.
Kevin DeYoung
The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.
Mark Twain
Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!
Dr. Seuss
People don’t want to go to the dump and have a picnic, they want to go out to a beautiful place and enjoy their day. And so I think our job is to try to take the environment, take what the good Lord has given us, and expand upon it or enhance it, without destroying it.
Jack Nicklaus
We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
Winston Churchill
You’ll never do a whole lot unless you’re brave enough to try.
Dolly Parton
For a true writer, each book should be a new beginning where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment. He should always try for something that has never been done or that others have tried and failed. Then sometimes, with great luck, he will succeed.
Ernest Hemingway
Try to be like the turtle – at ease in your own shell.
Bill Copeland
It is so much easier to be nice, to be respectful, to put yourself in your customers’ shoes and try to understand how you might help them before they ask for help, than it is to try to mend a broken customer relationship.Mark Cuban

Great post, and I love the quotes (especially that of Jack Nicklaus, as I used to play golf with an almost religious zeal).

Tim McGraw got it backwards, though. You have to die like you’re living. You have to carry on the routines that seem onerous but are actually sacred, for in the mundane is found the Key to Heaven.

Great thoughts Andrew. And you should know my friend. I’m told by her husband, that Traci also taught her family how to live without her. My heart almost stops when I think of the way she gave of herself until the end.
