We’re approaching the Christmas season, so the first thing I thought of when I heard the prompt from Kate was, Max Lucado’s book, God Came Near, which I read many years ago.
Can you imagine it. God, who had all he ever needed, came to earth in the perfect form of a baby.
God. A baby. Helpless and tiny with 10 fingers and 10 toes, crying, wearing whatever kind of diapers they would have had back then, learning to crawl, toddle and walk. Being human in all ways. Think about a newborn baby you know or have known and imagine him being God in flesh. Dwell on it for a moment. I’ll wait.
Amazing isn’t it?
A baby but also God the Son. Able to point us dumb sheep to the Father. Who could have taken such a beating, who could have performed the miracles, told a woman all she ever did, taught the Apostles, chastised the Pharisees and taken the sin of the world to the cross on our behalf.
In a few short weeks we’ll celebrate the birth of the Savior. So many won’t have any idea as to the true meaning of Christmas. They’ll barge through their presents and Christmas goose not realizing the most precious gift of all. Many years ago, a deaf young man made the sign to us “what’s a Jesus?” A couple of weeks ago Shane talked to a young man that had no idea what a nativity was. The name of Jesus has been squelched. So many don’t know His name.
This world spirals. Somehow those that live for themselves believe utopia arrives as they live free-spirited, without bounds. But the pain shows even as those lost souls try to prove that they are happy and satisfied but their eyes betray them. Empty pain. Filling their lives with those things that the world says is good but lonely without Jesus and not even realizing it’s Him they’re missing.
I pray those of us that know him as our personal Lord and Savior will take the opportunity this season to share Jesus with those around us. As a lost soul one who celebrated many Christmases of my life without fully understanding the meaning of the baby Christ child I am so very thankful for the blessing of Christ in my life.
Lord Jesus thank you for leaving Heaven. Thank you for coming as a babe, for living among us and showing us how to live. Thank you for your Word that gives us everything we need for life and godliness. Thank you for your Spirit that lives in us if we are your child. Thank you for your mercy and grace. Your sacrifice on the cross. Your death and resurrection back to the Father. Father, I pray that you will show the world your wonder. That you’ll open the eyes of the blind to see you clearly. I pray that you’ll use those of us who know you to share Jesus with those around us. That you will gently call and many will answer. In Jesus Name, Amen.
I’m linking up with the gang at Five Minute Friday where today’s prompt is NEAR. One word is given, a timer is set for 5 minutes and we write. Want to know more?
