Even in the Chaos There is Rest

Today we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the nailing of the 95 thesis on the church door. I could not let today pass without a mention.  Shane wrote a great post about it.

Today was not a restful day.  It was actually quite crazy.   Full disclosure.  One of my children drove me bonkers.  I spent much of the day frustrated.  Things that I wanted to get done didn’t get done and we’re still missing a math book (except I FINALLY found it) but the little girl doesn’t know it yet.  But here’s the beautiful thing.  No matter how restless life is on this earth we can have the assurance of rest in the life to come.

Chaos reigns in the world today.  There is very little peace.  There is very little rest.  But we can rest in the blessed assurance we find in Christ Jesus!

Today’s hymn.  The final installment in this year’s 31 day challenge.

Blessed Assurance  written by Fanny Crosby.  An instrumental version today.

Bless├Ęd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

    I’ll have to go read Shane’s post. Growing up Lutheran, this has been a great year of celebrating the Reformation. Blessed Assurance is one of my fave hymns!
